want to pass me a referrer code? I believe they do them, and youll get a month free.
all set up, synced at just over 16Mb at the moment, going to do some tweaking later, and if my stats indicate my line is ok for it ill be going on fastpath. Im told i should be OK for 18-22Mb. The upload is lovely though, just sat here and my effective upload speed is higher than my Virgin connections download.
Ahh, so good to get away from the retards at Virgin :D
How far are you from the exchange? Samknows will tell you, I expect you know.
790m in a straight line, meaning the wire is likely to be upto 1.5km long.
edit : wrong distance.
Accroding to various sites im ranging between 720m and 1.1km from the exchange. I got my ruler out on a map and did my own checking!
I think they stopped referals.
I doubt youll get more than 20 to be honest, unless you live on top of your exchange.
edit/
Im 710 meters from my exchange, so probably around 1km of wire.
Apparently my exchange services 18,000 households, I know theres quite a few Be customers in my flat block and I connect at 1,325 / 17,098
Be put in a date at my local exchange then rescinded it, much to my annoyance! the only LLU service available just now is Sky.
i asked to be put on fastpath, less than an hour later my line resyncs and i get :

Whats fastpath?
Did a bit of digging, sounds interesting.
Gonna find out if my stats are suitable for fastpath:

Yeah, was looking at the DMT tool, ill tinker once ive moved in properly. i.e. tomorrow once all my junk is finally moved!
On fastpath now and fiddled with DMT a bit (OK my SNR is far too low, but I just wanted to see how fast the line would go ;) )

Speedtest comes up with:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/166228140.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Newshosting tops out at 1.87Mb/sec but I got upto 2.3Mb/sec on Giganews ;)
Gonna set the SNR back to 4, still connecting at 21.3Mbit. Theres quite a few people on the Be forums who have hit above 24Mbit with very stable SNRs (6+)
I think I might lower it by 0.5 every 3 or 4 days and see when I start to get errors.
BBC ping came in at 5ms!
im now sat with zero tweaking at a stable 18.5Mb. Ill do a litte tweaking of the settings when i get some time. At 20Mb it was dropping for fun, but its fine where I am now. Will see what i can actually get out of it reliably. im also gonna swap out the BeBox for something else, a netgear DG834GT i think.
well aint that gay

Maybe they do this so they can say " Ill Be back";)
LOL
Other than these monster speeds whats so good about this Be package?
What else do you need? ;)
1.3Mbit upload is definitely useful (you can get 2.5Mbit if you pay more).
If youve got an HD screen of some sorts you can pretty easily and quickly get all the HD content you could possibly want.
The customer service is good and the community forum is as well.
Its owned by o2 although they havent messed with it too much and plan to keep the quality up so they can compete.
24 quid a month and it includes an ADSL2+ router with wireless.
As an example, i pulled the OpenSuse DVD down in under 2 hours yesterday, which was nice. My addiction to TV Links and similar is more easily sated now as well (Lovely lovely Battlestar Galactica).
The downsides are that you have to pay extra is you want e-mail, webspace etc etc. IP is dynamic as well, so that may not suit some folks. However if you already run your own e-mail, webspace and suchlike you likely wouldnt use their webspace anyway. I was on Virgin for 16 months and dont even know what the ISP Supplied e-mail addy was. Likewise the webspace. Same goes for Plusnet, Prodigynet and Freeserve when i was with them.
Offering those as extras is good.
I have no need for webspace, or extra email accounts. :) Its nice to have them chargeable extras instead of "included" but with a higher price.

they probably decided it wasnt commercially viable. in my area i can get Sky (16Mb max), TalkTalk (16Mb Max, and I wouldnt use them anyway), Bulldog (16Mb Max) and Be (24Mb Max). Obviously those are competing with the Uber Fast 8Mb BT on my exchange. Was setting something up for the neighbour earlier after talking to him because his wireless was open access. He gets 8Mb from Bulldog and they say he cant get anything faster due to his distance from the exchange. He was surprised im getting more than double that from a supplier he hasnt ever heard of. :D
Thought it was something to do with O2... this is even worse.
QuoteO2 may not extend its LLU broadband reach beyond the current commitments of Bes roll out to try and help keep costs down. O2 purchased Be for £50m last year and their current coverage is estimated at about half the UK population. This announcement by O2 follows a further delay to the service launch which was originally expected in Spring. For the areas not in reach of the Be enabled exchanges, a wholesale agreement has been signed with BT to enable further coverage, but the service is not expected to be available nationwide.
It is unknown as yet whether there will be price parity between those in the Be enabled areas and those connected by BT. Rivals TalkTalk charge an extra £15 to customers connected through BT and not directly to their own network, whilst Sky charge an extra £12 if connected using BT. O2 are expected to launch through its chain of retails stores to help target the geographical areas where its unbundled service is available. More information in The Guardian.
Just got connected today around 5pm. Connection was originally at 1.3mb up/19mb down, but I asked to be put on fastpath and am now on 1.3mb up/22mb down.
Its nice not having to wait for files to download :D

Whats your SN Margin?
If youre hitting 22Mbit that easily you may be able to actually max out the line at 24Mbit with a bit of tweaking.
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.0 / 6.0
In that case you could probably nudge it above 23, but probably not 24.
My down SN Margin is set to 4.0 right now and Im getting 22.8Mbit.
New product i like the look (and Price) of.
"Be Value" : Up to 8Mb, unlimited. No set FUP, but if they follow their normal course then itll be "As much as you can".
£14 per month. Damned good deal TBH.
Mwahaha :)
