Title: Apple to charge $20 for iPod Touch update
Post by: soopahfly on January 15, 2008, 18:21:42 PM
QuoteThe iPhone update will be free of charge, Jobs said, but the iPod Touch update will cost $20. It will bring the iPhones Maps, Stocks, Notes and Weather apps to the big-screen music player. Not compelling? Maybe not, but the addition of the iPhones Mail application will be for many Touch users. Its included in the $20 bundle.

why would it piss off iphone users?

Personally I think trying to find a wifi spot to use google maps would be a right pain in the arse.

GPRS/Edge might not be fast, but its everywhere.

I use google maps almost daily btw, maybe its not such a big feature to other people.

Piss off iPhone users because their oh so special device is now mostly available for alot less in price minus the phone part.

You know how people get when it comes to shiny toys and not being so unique anymore

or you can just keep your jailbroken ipod touch with google maps, mail, msn messenger and more and be happy because its free

It is stupid to charge the fee since for all those features it is just the missing files in the structure of the ipod touch added from someones iphone.
If he does not want people to mod and and unlock his things why be an arse and charge for an easy update, lol

Downloaded this today for mine, yeah I know, shouldve been free but hey..

Neat features are the moving around of icons on the home screen, ability to bookmark web pages on the home screen, enhanced google maps with hybrid view and find me functionality.

I hadnt got round to jailbreaking mine so its a nice set of enhancements..

From what people are saying here (http://www.tuaw.com/2008/01/16/those-ipod-touch-mia-features/)

The update has been pulled, and the download button replaced with a back soon.

Is it gunna be made free after all the uproar?

probably raise the price.

I got that message at first - you have to upgrade I-tunes to v1.76 before you can download it..

I dont think the update has been pulled.

They just need to hurry up and release the SDK so I can un-jailbreak mine.
