Title: Bandwidth Monitoring
Post by: Rivkid on July 11, 2007, 14:12:55 PM
Hi guys,

Anyone know of a good piece of software for monitoring badwidth on a small/medum sized network? Must be windows based and I need to see how much traffic each pc in the domain is using (trying to keep tabs on our dodgy sales guys!)

Ive tried a few but theyre all way over complicated and have loads of stuff I dont need.

cheers,

Riv

Is the traffic going through a server?  Microsoft have some free tools for network monitoring.

Some of it is some isnt. About half our users are through the proxy and the other half have unrestricted access straight through the PIX.

Hilariously whilst trying to find out who was eating all our bandwidth yesterday the engineers came to me and said it was a PC called PETERNEW (this is mine) - they picked it up whilst it was downloading network monitoring tools to help us find out who was stealing our bandwidth.....

made me laugh!  :D

Go to http://software.ccschmidt.de/ and pickup Interface Traffic indicator if you want a free tool. Turn on SNMP on the switch and run this against the switch...you can only do 1 interface at a time but you can run it more than once.
