The BBC will officially launch its high definition television channel on cable and satellite this Saturday.

I thought they already had HD content being broadcast on Sky?

What am I missing?

nope, there isnt really any change.. but 6 months ago BBC was close to pulling the plug on HD TV because they didnt want to confuse the public with the digital switchover thats going on.
Also, its not yet on Terrestial freeview as tehy dont have the bandwidth. Now though they can & will advertise BBC HD & Sky / Virgin Media can also advertise it as part of the package.

Should see Channel 4 HD launching within months.

What is news is that bbc, itv and c4 have done a deal to have a unified online service rather then one each. Some sense I think has been seen by at least these since no one will have or be up for having lots of bloody players.
Five not gone with them but probably will at some point
