just had an email from BE

and they're being sold to sky

sucks... no way I'm going with sky.... not sure who else to go with ?

might get bt fiber in, or cable

anyone make any recommendations ?

I've got a 24mbit connection (get 24mbit too) at home which I hammer from time to time
and a 14mbit connection at work which does nothing 95% of the time, but needs decent upload speed for the CCTV when I'm connected in from outside or when it triggers a motion detection alarm

It seems the top performing ISPs at the moment are BT, Eclipse, PlusNet and Virgin in 4th place, they should be offering around 3Mbps or more upload speeds.

I'm fed up of BT, Eclipse were good some time ago but shafted me a while back so I refuse to go back to them, PlusNet is probably going to be who I switch to next I think as I can't see a better alternative.

I want good value, fast & proper unlimited fibre but there's not many choices.

omg, it's a sign, bt fibre in my area... end of this month

£18 for 38mbit download, 40gig cap, no good to me

£23 for 38mbit, no caps

£26 for 76mbit no caps <<<<<<<<<<< WIN!

£26 for 76mbit is pretty damn good actually.

BT Infinity is the way to go, I'm on the £26 one and get around 68mbit down and 19 up. I torrent, download games, stream films and play on Xbox Live while the missus streams shows from China and not had any problems with BT.

AFAIK Plusnet are the cheaper brand of the BT product range, aren't they? I'm pretty sure BT bought them a few years back. There really isnt much choice in the ISP market right now, offerings outside of Sky, BT or Virgin are usually very expensive for fibre.

You could well be right, I'm not as clued up as I used to be. BT are okay on their business packages, but talking to their customer services can still be a painful experience, I'd sooner go with someone more dedicated and with no BS. Eclipse used to be just that but their prices have gotten worse and as I mentioned they really messed me around the last time I was with them, so I'm not interested in going back to them. I may end up sticking with BT anyway it seems.

plusnet have the same package as BT but £6 a month cheaper

I rate plusnet and bt pretty much in the same boat - both pretty crap

tbh, I rate pretty much everywhere apart from BE as pretty crap - BE were awesome, I was worried when O2 bought them... but they left them alone to get on with it... sky is shifting everyone over to there service and I don't fancy that.... my brother had it years ago, the service was terrible, downloads were slow, and ping was crazy high

My ISP History

AOL Dial Up -> Pipex ADSL, got bought out by Tiscali, wen't down hill as I envisioned -> Be Broadband, great for years, failed to keep up with pricing and technology process, despite being owned by 02.

As of December, phone and broadband is with Utility Warehouse, which is piggy backed on the Talk Talk network, £13.75 Line Rental, £25 a month for 80Mb Down, 20Mb Up (Which it is), no cap, no limit.  Inf fact it's something I show people as a part time business now in my spare time.

No one has heard of them yet they have the Which awarded for best provider yearly since 2008, I keep meaning to post the company into the shares thread, was £8 earlier in the year, this month £10, 4 times larger than talk talk for a company that does not advertise or have a call center.

My problem with these types of reviews is that they are just an average of what people report, generally speaking every LLU provider in your local exchange SHOULD be able to provide the same speed.  It's a reflection of nothing but statistics on Market Share an the odds of having that quicker internet connection.
