Out of principle Im not going to pay BT £124.99 to reconnect me, am I better off keeping the old wiring or insist on new wiring new wiring still wont cost 125
they wont charge you that if there is still copper to the house...

no, you need to keep the old wiring.
When I moved in to my flat a year ago, I had the phone line already in, and I wanted it reconnecting. They wanted to charge me £125 for this. So I said I wanted a new line putting in then.....as getting reconnect was the same price as getting a brand new line putting in......but they wouldnt, so I told them to shove it. Then phoned and tried again with a different person........no joy! But then I got a bill for the 3 months ahead, and it turns out they did connect me for free in the end without actually informing me! So it is possible to get it free.
must have changed since i moved house last then. i got mine for free too.

Reconnecting is easy enough for BT and usually can be done through a computer IIRC. Reconnection fees are just a way for them to rip you off.
