Post by: knighty on August 20, 2007, 23:36:32 PM
arg...

came home and my took longer than normal to start up...

now I find its full of spyware / spybots / viruses / tool bars etc....

apparently my nephew was using it earlier :-(

it was a fresh install, only a week old, and uber fast !

anyway.... got norton AV installed and fully updated along with spybot search + destroy and ad-aware....

but theyre not getting rid of it all.... any ideas before I have to go googling each individual thing and finding ways to get rid of them ?

Apart from the obvious, keep windows and your a/v updated.
Keep off dodgy sites and dont run something your not 100% sure of.

normally.... I dont run windows updatre past SP2, dont have any AV installed, and dont have any anti spy/popup/etc.. stuff on at all

and Im always fine because im carefull !

and Ill password my computer to keep my nephew off it... he can use my old one ;)

what I meant to ask is... any tips for getting rid of them ?  the odd one is easy, google it, find out how to get rid of it, do it.... but when theres 20 of them its a pain in the ass.   (paybe im just pissed because i have to format again because of someone else using my computer)

Run as many anti-spyware programs you can then run hijackthis, look for any suspicious items and remove them.

Download a trial copy of Spysweeper... from http://www.webroot.com

Why on earth do you not run AV software? Im very careful too but sometimes I get nasties. Its just not worth the risk.

Cheers

This is by far the best Spyware/Trojan/Fake Spyware Sofware tool I have used.

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php

Use this at your own risk, It has caused side effects such as a laptop not shutting down with updated properly.  Though this was remedied by manualy updating it.

At the moment I use AVG anti rootkit (free)
and AVG anti-spyware 7.5

but I rarely have any problems as I use ipcop (http://ipcop.org/) as firewall.
