Experience is 10x better than study imo.
I have interviewed people with a CCNA and they have been utterly useless when faced with a live router or PIX, compared to one of my guys with no qualifications and 7 years experience.
Buy a cheap router (Something like a 2621 or if you want to go cheap a 1700 series, get a few old pcs and a switch - something like a cheapo 2912 off ebay (With proper IOS not the older menu driven systems) and play about - thats the single best way to learn.
