Title: broadband use
Post by: neXus on January 27, 2008, 04:00:09 AM
Ignore heavy movie and song downloading every day like some do

If you play games, have xbox live, chat on skype, web browse every day, upload pictures like on facebook as well as download a load of pictures say from deviant art or other sites every day As well as your standard large software updates and odd game update or xbox live demo or small game and songs and movies at a normal level

How much In terms of GB? Do you think you use a Month?

Totally unhelpful, but im on for 250GB this month...

... Youre probably talking of 10-15GB at a guess, but that really is a guess. TBH your question is too vague - movies? assuming these are from your favourite bitorrent tracker, youre talking 700MB a pop, which can quickly add up. Standard large software updates? Are we talking ISOs or 50MB updates? XBL demos can be huge, as well.

Rounding figures a bit but Ill usually hit 20 at a very bare minimum. Thats assuming no streamed movies (I do that a lot in the background while Im working), no p2p or game demo downloads, basically just standard internet use including browsing, MMO gaming occasionally in the evening, watching the odd movie trailer, browsing the odd forum and making some posts, facebook pictures occasionally uploaded, browsing the odd media site.

To be honest the packages the ISPs are offering with limited access are a joke. Speed has gotten faster so the content you download as a matter of cause while browsing and doing regular things on the web has grown in size, but the monthly access limits havent changed. Something like a 6GB package would only be suitable for the absolute minimum of use, for your average user a 20-30GB package would be better, and if youve got more than one PC and youre using your X-box then Id be looking at 50 or even 100.
