Short anwser: No
Ps Its actually Modern Warfare 2, COD has been and gone years ago
Pps I would hold off buying it until after release, theres still millions of people that wont read into its lack of features but they will surely moan once they have bought it, couple that with zero reviews before release day and no demo, and give it a bit of time for some decent "unbiased" reviews to surface before making a decision.
Ppps This is in relation to PC release :P
Quote from: SamAnyone else looking forward to this ?
YES !Regardless of all the neigh-sayers, Ill be buying it on release day and will likely not play anything else until the next CoD game is released in 18ish months time :)
Should mention that Im a 360 FPSer now. It took a while to get used to it but I love it now :)
I loved Modern Warfare 1. I dont play online so I really dont care about lack of features in multiplayer, I just think the story is awesome.
Ill be buying it on Tuesday when it comes out.

^ Call of duty 2 :P
Agree with you on the single player though, I thought Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare was a great story and the single player very good. Also got Modern Warfare 2 on order and primary will play the single player but I like online FPS. I used to love playing battlefield 2142 and previous. I just can not be bothered to install it and all the dam patches again at the moment.
Next battlefield looks to be a great online experience. 64 each side multiplayer is promised.
Quote from: neXusNext battlefield looks to be a great online experience. 64 each side multiplayer is promised.
Large battles like that can be fun, but confusing. I took part in a good number of Planetside raids with a couple of hundred people, and they are fun. However after a while it does start to get silly.

Wonder how that MAG for Playstation 3 will go.
I have always loved the battlefield games online, the controls just fit my play style.

Have your 6 hours of fun playing singleplayer
You get far more than that if you play it properly (like a human would in a real situation).
Must go quick though with the auto-aim "feature" on consoles.... :gag:
.
FPS shooters on consoles still suck nads IMO, have yet to find one that is actually engrossing and doesnt feel like youre being hand held because of the control system weaknesses. I dont get all the halo fanboyism at all. They are okay for quick fun but you cant take them seriously. Real men FPS on PCs. :yarr:
Quote from: Clockd 0NeReal men FPS on PCs. :yarr:
Amen
Agreed, I still do not get it. Every time I play an FPS on the 360 it is Janky!
Halo has been the only one I found fun to play on console but know it would be better on pc.

If you want to compete you play on a PC. Granted.
If you want to sit in your lounge having a bud and playing an awesome game on a 40" screen, you play on the xbox. Thats the difference. Its more like a movie, and I just take my time over it, and enjoy it.
I dont play games online as I dont have the time and just get beat by the geeks anyway.
...and the cheating, bunny-hopping kidz....
They ruined COD4 Multiplayer for me. Truly ruined it.

Most modern console game wise has matchmaking technology so you play people of your level. Not perfect but the term is "hardcore gamer" not geek :) It is like people calling you a geek for doing stuff on the computer today. Old hat.
I play on such a screen on my pc, as do many others at a higher fps then the console because it is pc, true your not in the lounge but I got 5.1 kicking it in my ears as well. Not really a good example there.
Driving, the fun sort of games, 3rd person etc - Console.
FPS, RTS, RPG, MMO etc - PC
The lounge is way better as an experience. A 24" monitor in your bedroom sitting on a chair is not the same as two mates playing in the lounge on a 40-60" screen with beers.
The PC is better if you want to play competitively. Im crap anyway.

Completely different game types, Playing a wii with 4 people is dam fun, Driving game with beer and a mate is fun but the screen size console to pc is irrelevent thats all. I have a 40 inch LCD for my pc and playing modern warefare is dam good. Playing 2 will be great as well. I got a cinema Seat for my desk which is comfy as well. Everyones set up is different though.
So many good Xbox 360 games out in Q1 though. Mass effect 2 just to name one.
My copy was shipped today. Should be playing it Tuesday evening.
Mine has been sat there since Friday afternoon and no way of installing it as it requires steam to get the files for the PC version. Fingers crossed this will unlock tomorrow or after midnight tonight as steam has the release date as the 12th.
Just arrived this morning. Off to have a blast now.

Its the PS3 version, arrived straight through the letterbox via Parcel Force from a
gameplay.com pre-order. Working fine online although obviously not many people about to play against yet.
I must admit though I am not looking forward to playing the game and I am disappointed already before I start playing it personally. Was round a mates house on Sunday and he started the Single Player part of the game and he was done with it in around 5 hours. Not good as I was only looking at playing the SP and the co-op parts of the game and not the MP much.
Personally I play through the SP on Veteran, that way I get my moneys worth :) If I finish the SP in under 12 hours on the hardest setting I feel like Ive been robbed. With the CoD games I know that Ill be getting a good 20-30days of online time out of the MP so I dont mind :)
Im personally very disappointed that more and more games these days (with some notable exceptions, eg mass effect) are cutting down the single player part of the game and increasing the multiplayer bits
now im not saying that mutliplayer is bad, far from it, its just not my cup of tea anymore. But i am saying that one shouldnt be sacrificed for the other
Oh what to do...
Pickup my pre-order @ midnight and pay full retail. Get a couple of hours in before bed...
Wait until tomorrow, head to Sainsburys for 7am. Grab a copy for £26. If no stock, go and pickup my pre-order at 8am; get in an hour or so before work...
...grow up.

As for hours played - None of us here should play on normal for games. Normal these days is basically easy because they want more Joe Blogss Picking up and playing games. Easy is "Look, if your really dumb, this will allow you to play the game".
Always take the next notch up.
Get the hardest going on modern warfare and feck, some levels are hard.
Got the hardened edition last night, played a bit of the single player campaign then got bored as its just more of the same and ended up on Call of Duty Classic. I am spending more time on a remake of the original CoD than I am on MW2 xD.
Got very lucky !
I really didnt feel like bothering with the midnight launch, so I decided to leave it until this morning and get to Sainsburys for 7am...
However at 6:30 it was too cold and dark, so I decided to stay in bed. I finally got to the "big" Sainsburys at 10:00 and yeap, they were sold out, from 7am !!
So I had to go into town to GameStation for my pre-order :(
On the way down the escalator I noticed, out of the corner of my eye, a MW2 cut-out in our "little" Sainsburys (in town). I mooched in and they had 4 copies left :D

I think it could just be the fun of the original CoD coming back and taking hold. MW2 will be played tonight and probably finished if there is only 4 - 5 hours of gameplay in it.

Christ. How big is the update file it downloads? Been sitting here for 30 mins and its still not yet done... :disappointed:
Over an hour later.
Manual says it only needs to initially authenticate online then you can play offline. Why is it now saying the servers are busy?
Also, why is Disc 2 blank?
Not having a great MW2 experience, so far... :disappointed:
.
Quote from: EagleSteam Account required? WTF? :gag:

Dawn of War 2 requires a Games for Windows live account as well as a steam account.
At least on the plus side when I installed win 7 as Id registered DoWII on Steam it showed in the games list, meaning if I ever lose the DVD I can still install it.
"Steam servers are too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes".
This is with the Single Player OFFLINE game.
Tell you what, Activision. Im a busy guy myself so you can take the f**king game back, ok?

Welcome to the World of OfflineCraft!
So, on your PN connection you were sat for over an hour waiting for it to download?
So its about 2mb then :D
That right there is a reason to Pirate.
It seemed to have stopped downloading so I assumed it was just downloading an update but Ive just been reading on Steams forums that it has to download the entire game. So wtf are the TWO DVDs for?
Seriously pissed...
Where can I d/l a pirate/offline version? Ive paid for it anyway. This sucks balls.

This is weird. If you click on Reinstall, it installs from disc this time instead of a mahoosive download. Or at least it looks like thats what its doing. Certainly didnt see this on first install.

Scrub that - disc two fails to read.
Wank.
Refund on the way.
Do not buy.
Do not know what is going on with you Eagle but Mine installed it only downloaded a small update which has been noted by others.
Took 30/40 mins and read both discs. With steam disc purchases if it has issues reading off the discs the system will download the required files though. I guess your disc was f**ked up and it just downloaded it all or tried to instead?
I been playing it last night and enjoying it. Very good level designs and I have everything on high. Not having the setup in the main menu is bloody odd though.
My biggest issue at the moment?
Lean! Why the f**k did they take this out? I use it all the time. To peak and then go shoot is essential. With the fact on how they designed some of the levels this seems to be a give. I am finding myself break cover to see whats what and being hit to then duck back and then go shoot. They give you a bit more health as it were so you can take more hits but this change seems daft. I am playing it on hard.
NZ only gave this 15 and considering the airport mission I did I was suprised.
SPOILER ALERT:
Coming out of the lift and then the people with you starting to shoot civilians I did nothing for a bit, I did not know what to do. your CIA so you should not shoot people? I then started popping off dying people so they did not suffer but soon as the police showed up I was all out to stay alive. I think next time I will gun down everything as well. That was a pretty cool level tbh. Hard out though.
Download stays at 0% even after two hours of it. Given up....
Quote from: EagleDownload stays at 0% even after two hours of it. Given up....
Literally took 10 minutes for mine to install and that was at midnight on release day. I also think the only bit it checked with Steam was if the Game authentic and then it just installed off the DVDs. A few people seem to be having this issue and I noticed a post saying the new steam update is needed to get it installing. I think this update was released in the early hours of this morning.

"Piracy", maybe, but I had already payed for the game so... mittigating circumstances?!
Anyhoo. After seven hours trying, the game finally installed from disc.
i think i completed it in 7 hours
Im on PS3, and the online servers for MW2 have been down all day!!! Not happy!!! So have played and completed the campaign today!! Hope its back tomorrow.
Oh and if any one has completed it, go back in to it and select mission then choose museum, kinda pointless but cool at the same time. give it a try.

I can tell you the multiplayer is really good and fun. It is not a battlefield type of affair, it is different and these short low number games I am not normally a fan of but I like, and it looks good.
Battlefield 3 is coming, that is going to have the whole bells and whistles and that is supposed to support 64 on 64.

Whatever arsehattery involved in installing this etc, it has to be said, it is a truely beautiful gaming experience.
I want more single player awesome set pieces though, along the lines of the ending level or so.
If I was the publishers, Id be looking to turn this into an episode-based model selling a new two-three level episode once a month or something.

Id have to agree, i thought i was going to hate it, but after giving in and buying it tonight and take an hour or so installing and a bit extra sorting that sh*tty stuttering issue it is now running fine.
The gameplay, single player is great, lots of action, MP is even better than before, would like to see a few more people in the matches though.

not so keen on spec ops. Id prefer a longer single player campaign
Bit shocked to see that popup at the start about skipping Airport level! Even more shocked when i played Airport...! No wonder they are trying to ban the game.

Also, notice that u could kill civilians in russia and the favela in brazil, but as soon as it went to suburban washington DC, there wasnt an AMERICAN civilian in sight
I LOVED the bit where you go down the cliff, dangle down and stab that dude.
Not new but you stab and they die, but Infinity Ward turn your head, have the guy right there, struggle and die, right in your face. You see his eyes role back and glaze over. I was like "Wooooo" and then "coool".
It is those touches.
As to earlier about more things like that - Yeah you want more but I actually think - No. They added more of those moments since the 1st MW but any more and it wont have the same reaction for me. To many and its "Ahh, another quicktime moment coming", it looses its wow factor if it happens to often.

Quote from: EddAlso, notice that u could kill civilians in russia and the favela in brazil, but as soon as it went to suburban washington DC, there wasnt an AMERICAN civilian in sight
Yeah I think thats the first bit that got me when you land in the suburbs and all of a sudden you notice in a residential area there are no civilians. I think it would of added to the tension a little more there if you had to run through that level with civilians running all over the shop. It was a alright SP campaign but could of done with being about another 10 hours longer :P
How long roughly was the campaign?
first play thru on regular took me 6 hours, 2nd on veteran was like 5. Yet to do it on hardered, but apparently its the same difficulty as veteran but less checkpoints
I play it like you would in real life. 20hrs+
it aint real life
Still Playing this....
Loving online play still. I got a good combo of A UVA Missile which I try and get at least 2 kills from. That instantly gives me a gun chopper and I try stay out the way picking off people and getting kills from the helicopter and then I get the big plane with tha big guns. Switching between the weapons from that thing well and you rack up the kills. Soon after you run out of ammo and go out and about and get killed but its a lot of fun.

Of course they have a bearing on real life. People live and die playing them, make careers out them, gather in their 10s of thousands to watch and play them. If this isnt real life, Id like to know what kind of parallel universe you are living in.
Finally found a question that google cant answer perhaps?

Sorry Serious but that is probably one of the stupidest things anyone has said here. You really think that, how? Things have already been mentioned but at the very start of each of those you mention, the history of how they began to what they are now is 100% part of life. It is Real life, people play them... You could go on but if you do not like these sports that is fair enough, but to say that is just stupid.
