Trying to download HL2:Lost Coast and it says my PC isnt up to the reccomended specs. Im 200mhz shy!
However, when I try and squeeze my PC for a little more power, it enabled NVidia raid and crashes after the bios screen.
Ive got an MSi K8N Diamond Motherboard
Winchester core A64 3200
4x512mb PC3200 Apacer

Try lowering the memory to CAS 3.
Raise vcore by a notch or 2.
Raise memory voltage by a notch or 2.
Any 1 of the above or all 3.
Failed.
Am I stuck in the past by sticking to 33mhz increments on the fsb?

I think so m8.
Try raising fsb 10 @ a time , no idea what your bios looks like but i would be very surprised if you cannot overclock a little.
Maybe a temperature problem or PSU if it cannot.
can you not set the the FSB to asyncronous? or does that chipset not allow you to lock down the MHz?
To be fair, this board is a piece of sh*t.
Last piece of MSI hardware im buying

*chuckle* That sounds familiar. No point in upgrading that board atm though, might as well upgrade the entire rig. The cost of decent S939 boards has just shot up again. IIRC its only slightly more expensive to buy a CPU, Board and RAM :\
Next upgrade will probably be core2 tbh

if you arent desperate then might be worth waiting for the K10s TBH. I only built my little puppy recently, and i gambled on the K10 being a decent performer by taking the AM2 route. If the stories are right it looks to a be a good gamble.
Not desperate really, for Internet browsing, DVD Ripping and Encoding, its fast enough. I dont tend to play games thats what ive got a (broken) 360 for.

It will be interesting to see how much the AM2 boards hurt K10 performance, since AM2 doesnt support the new uber HT bus which K10 is designed for.
Good of AMD to make them backwards compatible though.

AMD say 5%-7% aparently. The 6000+ im on should last me a while so ill avoid the initial high prices and wait a few months for the extra boost. That said, if they ARE as quick as some of the suggestions (3.2 out of a 1.9 Agena on air) then i may be pursauded. Im unlikely to actually go Quad on my desktop machine just yet anyway.
Remove 2 sticks of Ram and try again :)

Hi Shaun.
Very good idea.
Too much effort, id rather keep 2gb than gain a bit of extra clock speed, what with vista and all.
ahhh, but cant you remove them, download/install the game, then stick them back in ?
:o
