Title: cinema system help
Post by: neXus on November 02, 2007, 16:25:37 PM
We were looking at this:
http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/585871/art/samsung/ht-x20r-home-cinema-syste.html#
Or this one:
http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/541029/art/sony/dav-dz230-home-cinema-sys.html

But since realised that to get proper 5.1 from the xbox need to be using the optical out when it has its hdmi plugged into the tv the sound port on the elite has either the standard left right and the optical and for 5.1 it needs the optical

Both the above do not have optical inputs, So need some help...
Which is similar specs and cheap as possible that has optical input?

so far I have..

Thanks

That is a speaker system that does not have a player, needs a player with divx support as well, xbox360 will not always be in the same location and there is another 2 devices that could use the optical input also.

Dunnu why I did not see this one, its Philips but that seems a good spec

EDIT:

Bah, Learnt to look on the manafacture sites these days:
http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/gb/consumer/cc/_productid_HTS3357_05_GB_CONSUMER/DVD-Home-Theatre-System+HTS3357-05

The:
1 x digital 5.1 channel audio line-in - rear

Is:
Digital coaxial in which is the cop out what I consider fake digital input
Optical SPDIF it has to be
The 360 Elite has this for the audio output:

So after that audio in

Nice find though

Ive got a Samsung system similar to the first one you posted, but with optical in. Cant find anywhere currently selling it, but the model is HT-UP30 in case you spot one. Its a fairly good system and plays any xvid I throw at it. Also has 2x stereo phono ins :)

If you find any Samsungs that look similar Id recommend them.

Found pssibly the replacement version of mine:

edit: looks like it can play Divx/XviDs from a usb device too (mine cant :( ).
edit2: cheaper:

You can get an spdif adapter

There is nothing wrong with spdif at all, how can you can call it a cop out connection when its often more reliable than optical (jitter issues too)... all you need is a 75Ohm bit of copper.

I have looked into this myself and you may be better going for Amp and speakers instead of a home cinema system.

Has HDMI and does upconversion so you only need to connect one HDMI lead to your TV and it deals with the rest.  Would be good for the Samsung because it has piss poor input selection.
