Booted up my NAS drive today and my 1Tb film drive attached to it started clicking. CLICK CLICK CLICK.
Doesnt register by USB. Its within warrenty but id like to recover some of the content from it if i can. Do I:
1 - Take the drive apart and put it in a tower to try and recover data. Doing this may void the warrenty.
2 - Forfeit the data (can all be acquired again given lots of time) and send the drive back under warrenty.
3 - Neither of the above, im missing the obvious solution.
Any recovery tips appriciated.

Wrap it (air-tight, or as near as possible), bang it in the freezer for an hour.
Make sure you have everything setup to recover the data, quickly un-bag it power it up and pray.

also... if you get some of the datsa off... then it dies again... stick it back in the frezer.... last time I did that I kept it between 2 bags of frozen peas while it was out of the freezer to keep it going a bit longer !

If it clicks then its the drive mechanism itself thats gone faulty, removing the drive from the case isnt going to help.
Try the above then send it back. If you have to download again then thats your fault for not backing up, buy a stack of optical disks and put copies of the data on those.
