Im paying mind to the 4850.  The 4870 is probably going to hit the £250 mark, but the 4850 should be hitting the £150-£175 mark by the sound of things.  The difference appears to be the actual speed of the GPU and what the RAM is running at.  Possibly a return tot he days of the 9500 and 9700?  :D

as for noise, after hearing the 9800 GX2 running, and having had an x1950 for so long noise isnt an issue.  You just slap a 120mm fan at the front and back of the case to keep the entire thing cool.

If its going to sound like a jet engine Id better get a case with cooling...

Getting case cooling wont effect the sound of the card  :gag:

A fanless heatsink will, however i doubt phase 1 cards will have them.

be surprised.  I cleared out 4 HDDs that where in the machine, the card doesnt wind itself up to full pelt even half as often.  It wont help with the noise if the card is running, but it should help stop it running all the time.

My reference was to the noise the card makes in general.

I have a fanless X1950.  The fan on it was especially loud.  Louder than the normal X1950 as it didnt use a stock HSF instead a smaller one which required a much faster fan to keep it cool :-/

I got a load of fans lying around, Ill just turn my case into a wind tunnel. And maybe invest in a dual slot cooler in the future.
