Its usually megabytes per second when referring to your net connection, so 5.6 mbps downstream, 1.1 mbps upstream. Just divide by 1000 (or 1024 if youre pernickity). Why exactly you want it in gigabytes rather than megabytes I have no idea, but it would be 0.005 downstream and 0.001 upstream to a sensible number of decimal places.

What happened to megabits, or have they been outlawed?   -)

6MB down / 1MB up it seems. But you could be on a faster service getting a slower speed.

8MB down / 1.3MB up. I would say the above service you are on.

Yes. Youre right, it should be megabits per second. But to be honest the difference between them is so small that for most purposes it really isnt worth splitting hairs, unless you need to for some technical or communications job or are an annoying nit-picker.

Yeah, youre on ADSL2+ (up to 24Mbps), as ADSL (up to 8Mbps) only supports upload speeds of 448kbps or 832kbps.

However, ISPs are provisioning people on ADSL2+ then capping them at 8Mbps so that more customers get the full 8.

Also depends on how far away from your local exchange you are & also what speed your exchange can handle too Privateer, if you go on samknows.com there is an exchange search & if you type your post code in there it tells you how far away you are from your exchange, the further away you are the lower the speeds can be.

Difference is so small? Factor of 10 isnt a small difference.

Wouldnt mind a 24 Megabyte per second web connection :)

I was just thinking the same......

I can remember trying to explain to a friend years ago when adsl was new that his 512kb connection was half a megabit, not half a megabyte... we was sure he could download a meg in 2 min !
