Title: Cooking NB
Post by: El Jacko on June 29, 2008, 16:49:25 PM
Hate to have to keep asking questions, but Im worried about the temps my Northbridge is reaching on the P5Q...after 2 hours installing bits and pieces this morning it was hot enough to burn my finger, yet Asus claims to fully support FSBs of 1600mHz. Any ideas why?

Are you Overclocking? If so dont, unless you know what your doing.. :)

But generally dont worry, bits get hot, add to the fact its summer, the way i think of it, if its working im not worried.

hot enough to burn your finger... do you mean "oh thats a bit hot cant keep my finger on it" or "OMFG thats hot i think my finger just mealted!" ?

Bit of both...and the Northbridge temp doesnt show in the bios on my mobo.

And as for the OCing, Ive had a experiment and lowered the Northbridge voltage as far as is stable...seems to have solved the problem
Next on the list is a new CPU cooler! and a PSU...should be able to get a higher OC than 3.2 then  :nana:

Not any more...cos a MB temp of 35 degrees isnt going to burn

Good mantra. Anyways, Asus claim to fully support OCing on the P45, so if it burns out the warranty will replace it.

I highly doubt that they would replace it when someone who doesnt know what they are doing ramps up the voltage and makes it go pop.

OK, point noted. Ive had to clock everything back to stock anyway now, cos Blizzards haplessly trying to help me to get WoW up and running. So far, no dice, just lots of BSODs and an annoying buzzing sound from the speakers every time I walk into a city.
