Im interviewing for a position tomorrow and Ive thought to use a question i was once asked.
If a pc has an ip address in the 169.254.*.*. range whats happened.
The answer is that its failed to grab an IP from DHCP for whatever reason.
but if thats the case, will it still be able to ping the servers on the network?

The APIPA feature of XP assigns that IP if theres no alternative config provided and for whatever reason the interface fails to obtain a lease from a DHCP server.
No you wont be able to ping the servers on the network.

I wasnt smart enough to ask if I could ping other servers. in fact Id never used DHCP at the time I took this particular interview, so I proper screwed this question up! They still wanted me until I priced myself outof the market. probly for the best as my current job is far better.
