Just been woken up by the phone
A friend who is in a good place just told me a few bits of information in regard to dune
It is no secret that there has been a deep locked contract and legal stuff going on to get a new Dune movie under way and in August of this year the talks and contracts were "very close"
My friend who has been able to see a lot of paperwork pass his desk has said the deal is done and will be announced December but maybe January
The new "Film" actually looks to be 2 movies or 3 depending on script development and it meeting the contract document requirements.
The requirements are to tell the full true story of the novel and not miss anything important out but be able to be watched and followed by people who have not read the books
Something very hard to do
Director wise there are two apparently begging to do this, well 3 but 2 are one..
The names my friends have seen are Mr Jackson and two people you may have heard of, one has made small films like ET and the other a war film series set in the stars as he put it to me.
but its all pencil at the moment he said
The Dune movie and the tv series and children of dune have their merits but did not quite get the beat of the novels Although Children of dune was not a bad go.
Recently a spanish based fan film had just post production (blue eyes) to complete and a trailer was put on the web but soon pulled. The Herbert Properties LLC and Family did not give permission as it was thought and this lead to some of the information about a full movie being planned (in the long legal stages)
The other bit of paper he saw tied to this and part of the legal stuff is that Herbert Properties have also been sorting the deal for a Dune MMORPG based around the era of Mordeeps reign and conqouring of the many planets right after his feats on dune.
Now there are a few hush hush MMOs in the works you may have heard about being touted by developers in the past couple months, bioware has one, EA has a couple other then WAR, there is a star trek one at some level and being very quite.
They all see the money that can be made in it (wow anyone) but all seem to know you got to be right on the money or you waste a hell of a lot of cash. One of the publishers/developers looks set to have the DUNE mmo as long as it meats some conditions
The contract stuff he has seen also leads to other games (all it says apparently is games based on the movie)
That is it, the brilliant dune books look set to come to life in a few forms at some point (were talking probably 2009-10 filming or something daft like that)
Right, ill go back bed, Had to put it down anyway as id forget all he said, take this how you want believe what you want but i just been woken up for this by him so I am going to take his word for it
why dont they just re-edit the original & add some fancy cgi.
Over 9 hours of footage was shot, cant any f**kers come up with somthing original instead of remaking anything & everything thats over 20 years old?
I wonder whos going to star in the remake of waynes world

rofl !
Christ. Dont let Lucas near it. Well end up with a comedy sidekick sandworm.
Im sick to the back teeth of remakes, the original Lynch was good enough and aside from letting him back into the cutting room to retrim and release a definitive version every other option should be written on individual pieces of paper and forced down the gullets of the studio execs.
there is a 3hour version already released as Alan Smithee tv version ( also on the 2006 Extended Edition of dune), Alan Smithee is used as lynch didnt want his name on it.
I used to love the film, till I re watched it having read the book, basically title, main character name and setting are the same rest are completely different.
the books have far to many characters in them to work in the short time that a film demands.
btw its "MuadDib" not Mordeep

If you read the book you can see that the film was way off base a lot of aspects of the actual story, fremin wear hoods, no wierding modules etc
But you are right, with hd they should go back and put the full film together, at home you dont care if it is 4 hours.
Frank Herbert had enough involvement with Lynch to obviously find it satisfactory enough in terms of an adaptation. Lynch himself isnt happy with Dune though and what happened to the film and has said its too painful to go back to re-edit it, so I guess well never see a definitive version.
There were plenty of follow on books in the series and TBH its been done to death. Should do one of the other books.

Done to death? One movie and a 3 part tv series done to death?
