Title: eclipse internet. Any views?
Post by: Mongoose on July 27, 2007, 18:48:42 PM
theyve got an 8Mb package for £14.99 a month with a pretty decent looking FUP. Anyone got a reason not to go for them?

Ive used em for 3 years, apart from a momentary lapse in speed a couple of months ago Ive never had a problem, nor had to wait for longer than 5 minutes to speak to someone on the phone.

Also their tech guys actually seem to know stuff! (You can also speak to them on the phone).

The online account management is complete pants though.

*edit - Just to add, I once did around 50gig-ish in 3 weeks (20g over my limit) and they really throttled me down for the rest of the month, but once the new billing month started I was back to full speed.

Ive been with Eclipse comming up for 1 year now, I moved house during that time and their service was setup when ordered and described. Im having some reliability problems atm, but I suspect thats poor BT line noise.

As WG said, they answer the phone and know what their doing. 10/10 for customer service, 6/10 for website & 9/10 for speed, 7/10 for uptiome, (though probably line/BT fault)

depends on what you are using it for. I looked at them, but their FUP wasnt really too hot for my usage.  I like streaming video, and i like it in DivX format when i can get it.  that 14.99 deal only has a 2Gb limit on it when you look at the product list.  Their 24.99 deal for 20Gb is 99p more than im paying for upto 24mb from Be with a FUP of "When you get out of hand well tell you", and there reports of people hitting 120Gb per month without it even squeaking.  if your exchange is unbundled then see who is doing what.

Mmmm, just remembered that the first time I had to call them about something the guy said hmm this is interesting I see you have an uptime of 42 days. He seemed impressed with the connnection more than me!

ive just come out of the back of some exchange issues with eclipse. they denied all knowledge of any problems, then gave me an invalid mac, then told me it was right, then admitted there was an exchange problem.

im still going to move, but i think it might be time to bundle my sky, phone and internet together, cos i need to save money.

Im on Be24 and regularly download HD content encoded in x264. On occasion Ive hit 350-400Gb a month without a peep.

I average 200-250Gb a month.

Just dont expect 24mb. 15-18 is more realistic. Im usually connected at just over 17mbit.

1.7Mb/sec constant speed using NewsHosting for USENET access.

one of the guys i know round the corner is getting 19Mb, and he is slightly further away, so im expecting somewhere in that region.
