Looking on DSL Zone UK, it says I am currently 290 meters away from the exchange (as the crow flies). Does this mean im likely to get good adsl speeds?

Just do one of the tests, bt site, adslguide etc, google for a few and run what you should be able to get, if I remember rightly I think it was adslguide who had that full assessment of line stability perditions etc.
You should but then again it depends on the quality and age of the cable.
at that distance youll get ipv8 traffic - before its invented.

Theoretically at that distane your cable cant really break 400m, however it is BT, so its probably 8.7Km with a DACS on the line.
Im 2.38 kilometres away from my exchange in town centre.
