Title: facebook email
Post by: knighty on January 18, 2012, 05:28:01 AM
anyone use it ?

if you setup facebook email...

can you read and reply to your messages in email format and facebook will take care of the rest... so I can just treat it like any other email and my replies will still be sent to the recipients facebook message box thing ?

it would make the company facebook page much easer to work with... but i don't want to change anything until I know how it works incase it all goes tits up !

:-)

- couldn't find a decent non fan boy, non sponsored, detailed review :(

Do you mean you want to send/receive messages to it from a regular email client like Windows Live Mail?

exactly....

if you go into facebook messaging and click "Claim your Facebook email"

there blurb makes it sound like it'll do exactly what I want...

but I wanted to make sure first.... facebook has a habit of making massive changes you hadn't intended and then not letting you change back !

I was hopeing someone is using it already

I've just been reading about it and it sounds like its garbage and isn't a full email system as such so you can't access it via POP3, it also doesn't seem to work well with external emails received on your @facebook.com address. I'd say avoid it like the plague for now.

doh :(

most of the reviews I read were great.... but pretty obviously bias

facebook messaging is a total pita when you receive 20 messages in the same day... it's too easy to miss some out, or not know which ones you've replied too :(

Well I'm only going off what I've read, but I found enough negative comments to make me realise its yet another of their ill thought out schemes. For instance, someone said that once you switch over you can't switch back (natch) and the new system removes subjects and attachments, so messages are even more disjointed. On top of that, external emails sent in to your facebook addy won't always open correctly or come up blank.

I use one.com and my own email (using thunderbird) that gives me the best control, I also forward my gmail and workmail to that account so I recieve everything in one place.
