Title: Finally figured out this xvid to VCD thing
Post by: maximusotter on January 13, 2007, 19:47:58 PM
needed to put a 2 45 minute xvids on a couple CDs to play in the DVD player hooked up to a 16x9 widescreen.

Used Avidemux. Super easy. :w00t: http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/

I just chose "Auto/VCD" and it set up the reduction in scale, vid, and sound codec. A 45 minute DVD rez xvid was reduced to 352 x 240 and 428.3 MB. Turned out pretty good, althought I forgot to turn off the automatic "black bars" which are a little annoying on the big screen. Played fine. I just burned the file to CD as my player doesnt need an actual VCD format disk.

So the second one, I do the automatic thing, remove the black bar filter on the video, and tried to resize, as why not use all the data on the CD. Well, I guesstimated about 66% of original size, then let it run a few minutes, then tested it, and the video was all wappyjawed and garbled.

Any suggestions? Im pretty happy with VCD quality w/o the black bar filter, but it seems a shame to reduce the rez so much to make it work, especially when theres room on the CD.

Ah yes, there was an SVCD option. Whoops. No DVD burner so CD will do for the occasional burn. ;)

Works fine here. Perhaps the mighty weight of of your avatar is stealing your megahurtz. ;) (3mb is only 60X the recommended size)
