Title: Firefox 4
Post by: neXus on March 12, 2011, 01:13:11 AM
RC 1 came on on Friday officially. Have it installed and even though I have been running the beta, this is dam fast and nice :)
Full release not far away but it will be minor fixed and optimizations from hear on in.

Chrome 10 is out as well and nice too.

IE9 is officially released on the 16th if anyone cares.

Using Google Chrome  10.0.648.133 beta and FF 4.0b13pre (2011-03-11) (daily build) at the moment they are both good but I prefer FF  :D

Finalyl a version of Firefox that can handle over 100 tabs!

I can actually use tab grouping the way it was meant to be used without 100% CPU hogging :w00t:

Tab grouping is the sh*t. I have a plugin for chrome that saves open tabs but this is such a nice interface. It was just an idea trial out but it is great they polished it up and kept it in.
I do recommend turning off the normal toolbar - view, file etc. Looks so much cleaner and you get a nice options bar.

How do you do tab grouping in 4? I have 3 windows open at the moment, with different sets of tabs...

... Also the english dictionary plugin doesn't appear to be working on the RC, it keep underlining words but then right click doesn't bring up suggestions?!?

Works for me.
Tab grouping you need to go view, customise toolbar and drag on the tab group icon.
Get rid of the google search bar and turn off the standard file, edit etc bar as well.

Cheers got that all sorted... but dictionary is still not working, unless I click below the word that is wrong, rather than on it, if I click on it I get the 'back', 'forward', page info thing as if right clicking on the page, and clicking below when you have multiple lines of text doesn't work :S

...and my spelling is rubbish at times!
(I assume you are using British English Dictionary 1.19.1)

Jolicloud works with Firefox 4 btw - so no need to install a new OS :)
can make a nice front end to your browser.

I can't seem to see a lot of point in the browser version?

I have a row of links across the top of my browser that does everything this seems to do, isn't it essentially pretty links?

I could see more point in the OS version, providing it works with remote controls?

But then it seems to be too slow to load to be a lite OS?

I do not see the point either in that. You can pin app tabs now. These with the Mozilla jet engine are working on apps just as chome has and other things further progressing these.
I do not see the need for it.

In saying that webOS will also come out for PC as a beta which will at first run just in your browsers. That I think is an OS to trial if your going that route.

hmm my bookmark wont load this forum in firefox 4 - get page cant be displayed.
hit refresh, then it works.
Think its something to do with the random characters generated after index.php in the url box.
tried it without the random characters & I get a plain white page of nothing.

I think it's just a forum issue, been having that issue before I upgraded..

It is to do with the SEO Friendly URL's that are enabled. The info bit after index when you bookmarked the site before Nige installed this you will get some glitchyness.
