I was expecting lots of black eyes but not smashed screen.

Im also wondering if he wasnt using the wrist strap, knackered his screen and then cut the strap?

Meh we will never know.

ive dropped a set of stepladders against the screen of the 50 odd inch one we have at work, and that did absolutley nothing.  I recon hes already broken it and hes wrangling after a freebie.

even crappy projection screens a remote going full pelt wont crack it surly?
As mentioned I have had all sorts hit screens

Yeah and the strap breaking, I have seen someone ask about the strap and a Nintendo rep swinging it around like a nutter and it not budging.

IGN also had a Wiimote strap snap on them. Check the vid for an explanation: http://uk.media.wii.ign.com/articles/745/745202/vid_1742357.html

The UK one supposedly has a proper strap, not a string so that shouldnt happen here, even if it did really happen there :)

Just seen an advert on TV and it shows the strap clearly.

guys its not a tv screen its a rear projection TV.

Rear projection tvs dont have glass screens they have plastic ones.  And trust me - if you hit them hard theyd break.  Got a 42" rear projection in front room and the screens arent glass.

Theyre cheap to replace tho...

Yeah they had one at the snooker club and it was really flimsy, horrible picture too.

If anything the ign one looks less plausible then the other cos its, by appearances, snapped in two places, whereas the SA one is just snapped in one place...

yup - the advantage is huge screens at little cost.  The downsides are the viewing angle is very poor (being near black at around 50 degrees).  They get even worse vertically where standing can give an almost black picture and sitting in front of screen can be blindingly bright.  The picture is generally fuzzy although thats more an artefact of a low def picture being scaled up to such large sizes.

The screens are just loose plastic and when you tap it its like tapping a cassette box/cd biox lid.

If you throw a 1kg anything at it itll crack like a whore in LA.

PS: I love rear projection screen despite their faults - kicks ass for 4 player gaming and general tv watching :)  Theyre low def but cheap as hell.

PPS: Hope everyone remembered to order their Wiis from Amazon this morning at 9am.  They sold out FAST!

cool - I normally only preorder from Amazon just cause they never sell more preorders than they get stock (i.e. you know you get one if your preorder is placed).

As long as everyone who wanted one got one :)
