Title: Free MultiChannel WAV editing software.
Post by: Walrusbonzo on June 04, 2007, 21:19:34 PM
Hi All

Have any of you got any suggestions for a WAV editing software that would allow me to say import three 24bit 96kHz stereo files and put them together to form one 6 channel 24bit 96kHz file WITHOUT actually changing the audio.

Ive been using Audacity for a while now, but whenever I import 24bit audio, it insists on converting it(or maybe its seeing it as such) 32bit float.  And this is a problem because re-exporting, even at 24bit, results in a WAV which is not bit for bit identical to the original 24 bit file.

Its kind of annoying and yes Im being picky.  But I want to make sure that my multichannel rips of my DVD-Audio disks are bit for bit perfect and this is the only stage at which Im not getting a perfect rip. :(

Cheers :)

in Audacity:

preference->quality->default sample format, set it to 24bit :) You can also set it to use 96khz, so therell be absolutely no conversions.

Already set to 24bit and 96kHz.  Goto file and import(or Open, or drag and drop WAV), open the 24bit 96kHz WAV and it STILL comes up as 32bit float :(

Bizarrely enough if I open/import/drag & drop a 16bit file Audacity shows it as a 24bit file

Seems like a common issue - http://audacityteam.org/forum/thread/4742

Problem solved.

Ive started using Wave Wizard - http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=95265

Very basic program for doing simple re-sampling and/or merging of audio data.
