I am looking to to some animated backgrounds, i have and can make some nice vidoes using some games and movies of a scene.

I would like to make short gifs of say a animated background and woundering if anyone knows a good free movie to gif software.

Virtualdub (select the frames you want > Save Image sequence) and import into GIMP to create your GIF. Opensource FTW!
