Title: movie to gif

I am looking to to some animated backgrounds, i have and can make some nice vidoes using some games and movies of a scene.

I would like to make short gifs of say a animated background and woundering if anyone knows a good free movie to gif software.

Virtualdub (http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/) (select the frames you want > Save Image sequence) and import into GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) to create your GIF. Opensource FTW! :)

Edit: Played about and made this. (http://www.plunder.com/White-Stripes---Blue-Orchid-download-1158.htm) :)
