Title: Help with new build
Post by: Ku®t on August 01, 2007, 17:50:25 PM
I need some recommendations for a new monitor (budget of upto £300), new mobo (to support core 2 duo) and a cpu (e6550, 6750,e660).

Also while i remember   Ive heard its better to have page file on seperate hard drive, what i have is 4 hard drives atm, 2 singles and 2 in raid 0, so far i have games only on raid drives, windows and programs on a single and the other single as a backup, Is there a faster combination where could I put the page file ?

Thanks for any help in advance.

I cant offer help with the hardware as Im out of the loop myself, but as for the drives, Id have windows on a single, games and swapfile on the RAID.

Samsung 226BW or LG 226WT are the best for that sort of money.

Steer clear from the dell E series, theyre the cheap ones and are no better than any others, just quite a bit more pricey.  The sammys the best, closely followed by the LG.

Or get one of the dell 2407WFP HCs that are going on ebay for £400ish

for the page file....

defo put the page file on the raidd drives... (tho tbh its not a big deal if you have a gig of ram and dont do any heavy vid/photo work.... but do this anyway ;) )

right click on my computer
properties
advanced tab
click suttings inside the "preformance" box
advanced tab
"change" at the bottom in the "virtual memory" box

then...

youll have to click "no paging file" so it turns if off for the single drive

then click the raided drive at the top, set it to "custom size" and set it to whatever is reccomended at the bottom of the window ;)

all done :-)

ah doh... cheers FC, wasnt aware of that, thought there was something fishy about it when I realised a 20.1" one was more expensive again.

If I get some money a 24** series shall be on my shopping list I thinks :D
