Title: Hosting question (Godaddy, 1&1)
Post by: Rivkid on July 03, 2007, 10:07:38 AM
Hi all,

Im setting up a site for a friend - and hes purchased the domain name from 1&1 and the hosting space from Godaddy. Ive changed the name servers on the 1&1 site to point to Godaddys and am just waiting for this to take effect.

Once this is done will I be able to ftp to the domain using the 1&1 name he bought using the username and password set up on godaddy? Is that right or have I lost the plot?!

no, youll use the user and pass set up on the hosting site. the user and pass on reg site are for the control panel only.

Ahh finally Im in! It was just a waiting game - I was doing the right thing. Changed the nameservers at 1&1 to point to the godaddy servers then once that kicked in the FTP account setup at godaddy logged me in at the web address bought from 1&1.

Easy enough once you understand it but neither site explains it very well (although Godaddy had a fair effort). It was worth it to get the price/package I got.

godaddy is a little on in terms of its settings, email is a bit strange as well but when you suss it all the service, speed for the price is just really good, considering the servers in the US the speed is top notch, I been dead happy with them

agreed - I really like Godaddy and this is the third account Im managing with them but its the first time I havent bought the .com off them (I needed a .co.uk which they dont offer) - thats the only thing that was a bit tricky. Great service though.
