Can anyone help with settings to overclock my computer, I havent had the nerve to try it yet. it is based on an AMD 64 X2 3800+ which is supposed to be a good cpu for overclocking, can give more details on comp spec?

If you list your full spec Im sure someone will help.

Some general tips tho:

1) Go in small steps.
2) Allow a saftey margin (i.e. find the max stable speeds and go 5-10% under).
3) Make sure you have good cooling and a good psu.

Wow, I havent seen one of these threads for ages.

This is the kind of stuff these forums were built on.

The principles are the same whatever the hardware, as sdp pointed out, small and steady increments. Try nudinging up the FSB speed step by step (the multiplier is less important overall) and run some benckmarks/burn in apps like Sandra to test if the system is stable. You probably find you can jump up a fair margin to begin with, see what people of similar spec machines are reaching on the web and aim for their figures but start lower to begin with.

Do you have the core stepping for your cpu? (I.E. the codes stamped onto the core like on this pic....)



The codes on this are ADX6000IAA6CZ ACBVF 0651VPMW

You can then google for something like "overclocking results XXXXXXXXXX" and replace the Xs with the stepping of your CPU - in this pictures case this is ACBVF, which is like a batch number, so every CPU from that batch number will have similar overclocking results.

Thanks for the info I will check for info on others who have clocked this chip and give it a try and I will also check with AMD for safe operating temps for chip.

No problem. Dont forget you might want to invest in some better cooling for the chip as a start (but see how you go with the stock cooler first)
