anyone know how to do it ?

Ive just formated a laptop for the son or a mate because it was so full of crap..... but i only did it a few months back, so im locking it down a bit now... and Id like to turn windows update off, and get rid of the little taskbar icon/bubble next to the clock telling me my computer will explode if i dont enable it !

Well to disable Windows update, go right click on "My Computer" and click on "properties" get the windows update window and click "off"

Shamelesly taken from windows help...
When the Windows Update icon  appears in the notification area, or when you are notified that updates are ready to download, click the icon.
Review the recommended updates. If you do not want to download an item, clear the check box next to it.
Click Download. (If you cleared all the check boxes, click Close.)
In the confirmation dialog box, select the Dont notify me about this update again check box, and then click OK.

edit2:  yep that did it, dissabled the security center service :)

(for anyone else, its right click my computer, manage, services, then down to security center, right click it, properties, STOP and then set automatic to dissabled in the drop down box ;)

Yes, I was just trying to remind myself how I did it.

Disable security centre is what you have to do.
