I bought a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop for uni, but my course is so easy i NEED to get a better laptop to play games on as my one only has the crappy intergrated sound/graphics...
I just need to know a decent motherboard caus i have everythin else, including superglue AND ductape!!!
Cheers for any help given
I havent had my hands on a decent laptop recently but I dont think its possible to replace something as major as a mobo within a laptop without extreme modification.
Try looking for a premade gaming laptop Alienware etc should give you a good start.
Youre much better off getting a small case a building a proper gaming rig.
Your save alot of money having a Gaming PC instead of laptop, plus gaming laptops are generally bulky and run out of power in minutes :P
I bought a Dell C600 (a PIII!) for my uni course (I study multimedia!) and I just make do with GTA I & II :P

Make do? Fine games sir count yourself lucky!!
I just got an XPS M1530 as my new work laptop (Like a free gift from work as we keep them!) - it has
Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4GHz
4 GB RAM (667 MHz)
Geforce 8600M GT 256MB with HDMI port
320GB HDD
BluRay drive
Gimmicks include a multimedia player you dont need the pc to be on for, a slide out remote control, a 2 megapixel webcam and a fingerprint scanner - and HDMI port
It plays crysis and bioshock perfectly at high res. The slower models in the range get in the 4-5000 3mark range in 3dmark06.
It is *JUST* portable enough for my job
I would reccomend them

If you dont know where to source one from then you really dont want to be tackling this project. Its VERY difficult to update components in a laptop let alone a motherboard. Unless you source an updated motherboard from the same manufacturer for a later system in the same casing it almost certainly wont fit in the case and thats before the hardware complications.
Sounds going to be integrated anyway on a laptop but you can get plug in sound cards for laptops. Graphics youre not only limited by the GPU but probably going to have shared memory in there and a slow response screen.
edit: Ive had tons of laptops held together with glue guns and tape.
Still have a mac lying around that only works when pressed against a desk using a G cramp :)

No, duct tape is a very important item for modding. Its the nick that bothers me (Celestial-Drunk?) and only one post, which is why I havent bothered.

The custom cooling solution on my gfx card is tied on with cable ties and uses halfords copper grease for interface material.
Hey cheers for the help guys/gals!! and i like my user name, The Celestial-Drunk is f*****g original!! Cmon!
plus ive got loads of stuff held together with super glue and duct-tape!! a carlsberg chair and side table and many computers and the like! and most recently was my PS3, which is now covered in superglue from the pound shop!! 8-)
So, the general consensus is that i should just buy a premade upgraded laptop instead to avoid all the hassle then??
Cheers everyone!!
and im not jokin about the duct-tape and superglue...
Youre not the only one whos had stuff held together with superglue and duct tape... ;)
This project was doomed to failure before it even started :disappointed:
All good modders know you need blu-tack as well as duct tape.
