Title: iPhone sim only contracts?
Post by: zpyder on June 17, 2012, 19:26:51 PM
My contract with O2 is up at the end of next month pretty much. Currently pay around £35 a month, quite looking forward to halving this as I'm happy with my phone and don't really want to swap it.

Question is, what's the best deal out there? Just need texts and 500mb data really O2 seems reasonable-ish, Three seems a bit cheaper too.

Ideally looking at 1 month contracts, don't want to get tied into anything in case I do decide to swap my phone for whatever reason...

I find their tarrifs confusing in terms of costs and what you get though. Is it Pay as you go or a monthly contract etc...

Its pay as you go strictly speaking. They do, however, sell goodybags for a set amount of money that give you a months worth of whatever the goodybag you purchase has.

For instance, the £10 goodybag gives you 250mins, unlimited texts, unlimited data and unlimited giffgaff to giffgaff calls. This is basically the best deal you're gonna get anywhere. Major companies do similar on sim only with a 12 month contract.

You can even set giffgaff to auto top up once you've gone under a certain amount, which means you'll always be able to buy a goodybag when the other one runs out.

£10 goodybag, I did the same the second I came off a contract a couple of months back, no brainer tbh.

Sounds good.

When it comes to renewal time I'll tell O2 to match that or I walk.

They can't match it, no other UK network can, my money is on they will give you stock lines like 'they're community run, no support' or 'they don't have their own network like us' and general bullcrap to try and scaremonger you out of changing, generally you have to ring them to request your PAC code anyway, so worth a go :ptu:

That's the thing though. My last 2 phones were a Sony Ericsson X1 (Enough said really) Followed by the HTC Desire, which was a good phone admittedly, but the iPhone does everything it did, better. Added to that I now have a lot of purchases for things like identification guides etc, which 2 years ago were very poor on Android (don't know whether they still are) I have no desire to swap back to android. Coupled with the fact that if I did want to swap to something like a Galaxy SIII, I'd have to continue paying a lot for the privilege.

I like the idea of saving £15-25 a month tbh. If I saved £25 a month it'd be enough for a holiday each year :D

Will also be moving to the £10 goodybag giffgaff when contract ends. Its the new Genie and no-one can beat it ;)
