AGP? Are they even going to bother doing that?

Yep, and why not? there are still a huge amount of AGP users out there, like myself for example, who cannot afford a costly total system overhaul, this is a quick and inexpensive fix :)
my nforce3 250gb motherboard with FX57 CPU scales quite nicely with this HD3850, and until i can justify a new PC this will do me nicely ;)

I know they are doing the 3000 series in AGP, but im not sure the 48x0 series will. The theoretical throughput is huge, and the performance hit if you drop one in an AGP slot may be more than ATi may be willing to take.
oh wait agp...might have missed that bit

Oh, i fully accept that this is quite possibly the last of the fastest AGP cards made, my future upgrade *will* be a PCIe setup with superior CPU and RAM etc, but for now i am well happy with this HD3850 8-)
BTW just because this the card i brought is in AGP format doesnt mean its a slouch, clock for clock and performance wise, its well up there with the best (for now lol)
EDIT: just incase youre wondering

When you retire it from mainline use try it as an entertainment job, these can power 1080p TVs without any problems. I have a PCI-E version that I have used for a couple of months just doing that.

Oh, i know they are good cards. Ive got a few people asked me to fit them. The 3870 was on my shoppinglist until the 48x0 series cards got to under a month before realease. As it is im now being deafened by a 4870. Lovely card but I feel it needs a better aftermarket cooler. Ive no intention of trying the fan speed fix, as im more concerned about cool than quiet.
Tis an excellent card, I was using one (which is now FS) in my old rig, I only switched to PCIe a month or so back. :)
Here she is running along nicely 8-)
would like to say one last time, really, thank you Tekheads for being able to supply me with such a great card!

Has almost exactly the same pixel fillrate as my 4850....but 1/3rd of the texture rate.

Very nice El Jacko 8-)
Yeah, been reading reviews and chatting to a few mates of mine online who have the 4850 (one has an X2 model) and they say they throughly like their cards 8-) AMD/ATi have pulled back nicely (keeps nVidia on their toes hehe) competition is good and for us enthusiasts it can only be a good thing -)
ive got one myself. been great. havent had the problems alot of people have been complaining about. just stick to the drivrs from saphire and its fine. 8. hotfix is vaiable from their website.
just wish i could find a board to put it in now lol.
The Asus P5Q pro is sublime. But, if you want something more affordable, have a look at MSIs P35s.
Cant wait to get another card and crossfire the two. Should take any game I can throw at it for about 4 years.
