I dont think cost of the car was an issue. Its more the fact that Ford have got to them obviously for product placement.
This is knight rider, its all about kitt. Product placement unless a heavily modified car is just not acceptable and I am simply not interesed in the movie.

No, and then yes, It was the other car up to just before xmas, was on a tv site, The tv movie is basically a pilot like battlestar was for a series and they needed 3-4 cars, one is the drive about red light looking one, one is the chase and thrashing around one, the other is the speed mode one and spare.
Cost was to high so they looked at other options, Ford came in then with the product placement etc deal of which the voice of kit could then not do.
Probably Kilmer will do the tv movie but a series would be the guy on the website
I dont see the difference between the original KITT being a Pontiac Trans-Am and the new version being a Shelby Mustang. Neither are super cars or anything, I know there was a fan made image a while back depicting the car as Veyron but to be honest Id much sooner the Ford than the Bugatti, it has far more in common with its predecessor.
that website sucks.... the kitt voice is all wrong.... its all just so wrong :(

People thought it was but it was actually the initial poster for it, basically as part of the Pitch to the TV companies and the plan was to use one. If you look at the style of the movie to show you have this quality element to it trying to be more bionic women / battlestar / terminator series over bold and the crap people, I posted proof of that in a past thread

Granted it was not pretty. Whatever colour it was. I actually thought it was a half decent effort concidering ford created it.
It was a unique creation, so I let that one roll.
