how much do toners cost though?
Toners are Ã,£20.00 but they are the easy refill model with a plug you just remove to do it. Refill kits are Ã,£12.00 for 3 bottles.
mine cost Ã,£12.50 from speedie computers. Came with a toner.
Tiz a laserjet 1100, may buy the scanner attachment for it at some point.
Still yet to replace the toner, took about 10 sheets before I had managed to clean out the printer properly to get nice clean prints, but yeah, seems to be a perfect buy :)
Certainly would not consider going back to inkjet now.
My Brother laser printer was a bit more expensive, but its printed out nearly 2,000 sheets on the basic cartridge supplied, I have a high capacity one ready to change to that I bought over a year ago and Im still waiting for the one I have to run out
thats pretty good going!
he just brought the printer in - its absolutely mint. New items dont usually look this clean.
....no wonder hes single.... :D
Ive had the Sammy ML1510 for a couple of years now, it sat under my desk for my last 2 years at uni. I refilled the original cheapo cart which came with it once but the drum (integrated into the cart) has degraded so I now have 2 carts, one slightly knackered but with loads of toner left, the other brand new for maximum quality.
I used to print off my uni reports using the laser for text and then feeding the pages through the ink jet to add graphs, photos and such, worked really well.
Oh and it works like a charm under Linux if you ask it to, and dispite the tiny 2MB memory Ive never had it complain at printing photos (I print thumbnails of my negatives after scanning), unlike my dads HP LJ2550 which has 64mb but wont print more than one 6mp photo per page.
iv got a sammy laser ML-1210 i think, cost a fair bit but then i did buy it 5-6 years ago, was a cheaper one at the time, 3 years before i changed the toner and its still going strong today, awesome printer
Cool - sounds like Ive done ok out of this then.
Sad I know but I really want to go home and try it!
Note to self:
Its a printer you big geek!!!!!
lol @ your 2mb memory. I have 18mb on my laser printer and its ancient! :D lol

Mine has 4, but Im not doing stuff like printing out postscript documents or ones with pictures and such embedded. If yours is old enough then it will have its own processor on board, the work that it does will be handled faster by his computers CPU. Really it doesnt need the memory and it keeps costs down too.
