Been using Ubuntu 7.10 for a week or so now, and i have to say that its a tad poop. Compared to Vista x64, programs crash more and the audio / visual programs are just nowhere near as good. It seems that nothing but VLC will use any hardware acceleration to decode x264 video, leading to loads of corruption and tearing. The audio programs are nowhere near as good as winamp, and why is the volume set so low??? In my experience, the only benefit of using Ubuntu is the multi-desktop thing. If that was in Vista then Id be a happy bunny.
[Edit: multi desktop thing = desktop cube =

Try Madriva Linux.
Its probably the most user firendly with a good bundle of software.
personally I dont like Ubuntu either, OpenSUSE & KDE for me!
I prefer Ubuntu to Suse etc. but then my current theory is Windows for playing (music, games, video) and Linux for work.
Erm... surely they have multiple desktops in vista? I have it on my XP even... they released it as a powertoy.
I use redhat exclusively now in work, so yeah far too used to it now to even contemplate going back to debian based distros. :)
