thanks guys! I still think Zpyders  uber fort is more polished looking than my sky fortress though. I think hes got more in the way of attention to detail than I have.

Now that the sky fortress is finished I need to explore a cave system which I discovered (read "fell into") while quarrying sand for the glass. I was wandering around minding my own business digging up sand and broke through into a cave like the one Zpyder saw with sand stuck to the roof. The sand I was standing on rapidly ceased to be the roof and I ended up down a rather deep hole!

Ive used up basically all the resources I got from mining the spawn tunnel. I want to try doing some blasting with TNT if I can get hold of enough gunpowder.

Mongoose that is the most awesome thing Ive seen, and Ive seen some cool stuff on Youtube. I spend ages digging and building stuff and dont have anything anywhere near that cool  8-)

What are you using for screenshots, is there an F12 type print screen in game?

Did you use buckets to get the water up into your sky fortress?

:whoops:  :whoops: thanks Clockd, thats very kind

The screenys are simple F11 for full screen then PrintScrn and paste into paint jobs. Id have done a walkthrough video like Zpyders but I dont know how!

to get the water I used two buckets. Useful tip for getting water to somewhere a distance from the ocean:

Get two bucket-fulls of water. Dig a 2x2x1 square hole, and put the water in diagonally opposite corners. The hole should fill with still water, and you are now the proud owner of an infinite spring. You can take as much water out of that hole as you like and it will always just fill up again. This is how I got water into the sky fortress, irrigating the first floor relies on the waterfall in the middle and also a moat all the way around the perimeter, which would have taken a VERY long time to fill from the sea! I just made myself an infinite spring inside the sky fortress and filled it up from there. Actually after placing 5 or 6 bucket-fulls the moat itself became an infinite spring which made things even quicker.

As for getting rid of crazy amounts of stone, gravel etc from mining, I have a lava pit in my minehead station into which I throw things I no longer need. Be careful not to put anything flamable near lava though, or bad things could happen.

I dont think so. I think theres just a contrast between your impossible design, and my classical structure is all!

The sand thing has got me wondering whether itd be possible to make a trap using a pressure plate so if someone/something walks on it they get buried under a load of sand...

One more for the list of things to try if/when we get a tek server up.

Thats why I replaced my uberforts wooden walls with stone fairly early on :D Not that I expect any lava or anything, but I did build it next to a volcano :D

Im tempted to try and set up a server this evening but it wouldnt be a permanent solution and if Knighty gets his sorted any progress we made (If I could actually get it to work) would be lost.

according to those random comments on the Minecraft startup screen, the minecraft world is 3x larger than the real world.

I wonder if it was coded on a mac?

He deserves it tbh.

Though mind you if that was me, after a month Id probably just sell the game and retire for life.

as long as its stable..... he doesnt need to do anything else ?

tho I guess theres always room for improvment

if hes sensible and genuinely enjoys the coding, it means he can now focus on making the game awesome without having to worry about where his next meal is coming from. Then when Minecraft tails off hell have enough of a nest egg behind him to move on to his next project in peace.

when youre talking money of that magnitude it doesnt have to be stable for long, 2% interest on £1,000,000 is still £20 grand a year!

Ill look into it some more, only set it up 5 min ago, but thought Id keep you guys updated :-)
