Title: mp3 normalising?
Post by: Quixoticish on November 12, 2007, 13:26:24 PM
Is there any good software floating around that will normalise over 10,000 mp3s so they play at (roughly) the same volume? Im using a winamp plugin at the moment but the volume change when it shifts to keep to the average volume is quite noticeable so I was wondering if there was any external way to do this so the mp3 will always play at a certain volume. (Preferably without any quality loss, they are only mp3s played on my IRiver and on desktop speakers but Id still like to keep the quality if possible).

Any replay gain scanner. It doesnt normalize the track, but it stores the loudness of a track in the metadata of the file, so the player knows how much to adjust the volume. This also has the advantage of not needing to re-encode the track, so no quality loss.

Nevermind, apparently Winamp already has a normalise option on the replaygain, I just hadnt messed around with the options to find it. For some reason to get Winamp to scan your tracks and add normalisation info to the files you have to use a rather obscure menu. But all is sorted now.
