Title: Must I install Blueyonder (telewest) CD?
Post by: saynor on January 13, 2007, 11:43:40 AM
Hi all,

As title states, Must I install Blueyonder (telewest) CD?

Receiving it yesterday I read the setup instruction manual and it states "Do not connect the modem to the PC before installing the CD". However I went onto read what the CD installs and it seems to me I require non of the services, firewall, Support tool etc. I do not require it to configure my email or IE either.

Therefore as a result I just connected the modem to the PC straight away and I was away, works fine.

I ask is this ok????? And why do they state in numorous places "Do not connect the modem to the PC before installing the CD"?

Cheers all, I hope someone on the same service can answer this.

no, i havent.

Though if you swap the direct connection from a router you also have to re-start the modem, and on some of the modems you have to clone the MAC addy.

Edit : the only reason i can see that they say dont connect before installing is in case you are using it on the USB.  Though for the tech-illiterate the warnings are good, at least it gives them SOME level of protection (We all know people with 3 year old copies of Norton AV running without updates yes?).

Cheers,

I am trialing Microsoft OneCare at the minute in Beta so security wise all good and upto date but I agree about the "some people" comment.

Definatly dont want to be using the USB and no router at present so a direct link without any install looks good for me.

Cheers.
