Title: My Music
Post by: mrt on April 12, 2007, 09:48:10 AM
Well in a bid to get with the times I thought Id update my music collection.  Currently into Paolo Nutini, Ray Lamontagne, Snow Patrol, Joss Stone, Kooks, John Legend .... what titles would you recommend which are in similar tastes which you would class as being an absolute must have in your collection?  Or alternatively, an album you think would be a must have none the less.

Cheers

Johnny Cash - All the american series of albums

Pixies - doolittle - I cant even begin to express how significant this album is to me - my absolute number 1 album of all time :)

The Arcade Fire - Funeral

From the bands youve listed you should prob check out a band called Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly.  The main guy from there has been touring with Snow Patrol as an extra member for a while.  Album called The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager is fairly good.

(Theres a little ipod in the bottom right of the screen if you want to preview some stuff.  Lyrics on track 5 are pretty good).

Saw a band that were something very special a couple of months back called YoungBloodBrassBand which might be right on the edge of your tastes...  Hard to explain their style tbh

Favourite albums of the moment arent really in your genre but its between:

Rise Against - Siren Soung of the Counter Culture
(Paper Wings - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3EJ5icvaHk)

Lost Prophets - Liberation Transmission
(Rooftops - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H2vGbI46Vs)

Dont care, Joss is vocally superb!  I quite fancy the red hair too.  I quite like Take That since they came back ... take the piss out of them instead.  ;)

If you like Ray LaMontagne or Paolo Nutini, then Cat Powers The Greatest (http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/catpower/greatest?q=cat%20power%20the%20greatest) is in order. I loved it so much that I bought it on vinyl.  Ray might also be a good segue to the new Neko Cas (http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/caseneko/foxconfessorbringstheflood?q=neko%20case%20fox)e record.

If you like Joss, then get something classic like "Top of the Stax (http://www.amazon.com/Stax-Vol-Twenty-Greatest-Hits/dp/B000000ZMQ/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-9943699-5397502?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1176857688&sr=8-1)" volume one or two.Booker T and the MGs, The Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, etc. Everybody needs some Stax in their collection. :D

Most pop fun Ive had in the last year has been with The Raconteurs, New Pornographers, and Goldfrapp.

My music collection is hopelessly out of date after leaving uni. Luckly I like rock/metal/punk, so I just need to get the new stuff from the bands that have been going for years.

Really enjoying chillout/trance as music to have in the background whilst gaming though, any suggestions for decent stuff that is quite long? Cba changing it every 40 minutes.
