Title: Name that series
Post by: zpyder on August 16, 2010, 11:47:14 AM
For some reason I just remembered an old TV series that was on what must have been 12-15 years ago now.

All I can remember are 2 eps, and a slightly overall series premise.

The premise was a lot like Fringe and the x-files with odd things going on and a team investigating, there were at least 3 main characters in the team (The male boss and the stereotypical male and female underlings) . However I think it was much more biological orientated, with a a good dose of religion involved.

One episode all I can remember is there was a passenger plane and people were getting sick to the point of pretty much dissolving or something. Luckily for them I think some of the team were on the flight and had kit with them, so they spent the time trying to find out what was going on. The bit I remember is that they gave the captain a hazmat suit to prevent him from getting sick whilst flying, but progressively got worse. He landed the plane and when they congratulated him he had already died, and it turns out his skin had liquified and the hazmat suit pretty much kept him together.

The other episode I remember was something to do with prison inmates on death row. They were getting lethal injections but coming back from the dead or something. There was a sequence where I think the lead character got an injection and ended up in limbo with the soul of the bad guy, fighting it out, and then some demons or something basically came to collect the bad guy, letting the good guy go back or something.

Good luck with remembering this series!

Nope. Right kind of time, but totally not it.

It really was like fringe with a small team of people that would frequently don their hazmat suits to investigate something. I think it was more obscure than Millenium and probably a short series...I can only remember 2 of the eps as it is. It might have even been made on the tail of films like Outbreak.

I dont know whether a university was involved or the church for that matter, a recurring plot device may have been people further up the chain of command knowing more than they were letting on or something.

The only other that springs to mind from around that period is Psi Factor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psi_Factor:_Chronicles_of_the_Paranormal

Nope, not it. It was a proper series, rather than a Twilight zone format. Im pretty sure the opening credits had the biohazard symbol in them at least in passing.

How about ReGenesis (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0429422)?

Having done a bit of searching around your first episode description sounds a lot like the Fringe Pilot, which also involves a plane and people getting liquefied. Could they be one and the same? As for the other description I have no idea.

QuoteThe pilot of "Fringe" follows Detective Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) as she investigates a mysterious plane crash. Where the mystery starts is that the passengers have all been liquefied by unknown means. When Dunham's boyfriend is contaminated with this mysterious liquefaction she enlists the help of an institutionalized professor, Walter Bishop (John Noble) who worked with the same experiment in the past and his estranged son Peter (Joshua Jackson). The rest is a race against time to save her love and find out the mysterious goings on beneath a top-secret agency looking into "fringe sciences."

QuoteSpecial FBI Agent Olivia Dunham is part of the team called in to investigate when Flight 627 lands with everyone on board dead: their flesh liquefied. When her partner and lover is contaminated by a similar chemical that crystallizes his skin, Olivia discovers the one man who can help has been institutionalized for twenty years.

Believe me the fringe parallels are astounding...but I vividly remember watching the plane episode in my PJs with 2 friends who were sleeping over back when I was at a school that went 7-13 age group, which is what makes me think it was 10-15 years ago. So ReGenesis is also out the window.

Talk about a thread resurrection...I was googling the voice cast of GTA V as I thought Trevor sounded like "Krum" from the "Real Monsters" cartoon...and found that the actor behind Michael was in "The Burning Zone".

THIS WAS THE SHOW!

At last, I have an answer!
