Title: Nearly there...
Post by: greg123 on January 30, 2007, 18:51:40 PM
Hi, i have posted a similar topic but the situation has changed quite a bit so i thought it justified a new topic!!

This is the setup my computer (graphics) has at the moment

Monitor: standard vga to vga (15 pin on both)

TV: I have it setup as follows:

i bought a standard vga cable (male to female) and then bought a 15pin to 9pin adpater, the cable(s) are now connected perfectly from pc to tv, and there are no loose connections. However, when i put the vga source on my tv it says "no signal"

WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT NOW!!

Thanks,
Greg

Is the input socket on the tv definately a vga socket? if not then youll need some kind of scan converter.

Hi,
no its not serial input,  the pins are arranged like this:
.....
....

It is right next to my standard 15 pin vga port.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi. I cant take a picture, but it is EXACTLY as i described it.. The pins are positioned as previously described in 2 rows. Will this not show video? Also, can i just buy a vga splitter then and use the vga port im using for my monitor for my tv aswell?

Thing is just hard to think of. Is it like this:

or...

If its neither of those then its unlikely that it will be outputting anything.

If it looks like this:

Its a serial port, and not a video output.

or this:

Its a gameport, again... not a video output.

Greg

I had a similar problem on my HD tv, some resolutions the TV could not display through VGA.  In the end the only two that would work were 1024X768 and 1280X768.

In the end I got a HDMI to DVI cable and used that so as I could run dual view mode.

Quote from: greg123i bought a standard vga cable (male to female) and then bought a 15pin to 9pin adpater,

youve got to wonder, what possible use is that adaptor? why on earth did someone think it was a smart thing to manufacture?

this isnt a dig at you for buying it greg123, you didnt know, but I wonder why they even made it in the first place.

is there some standard for transmiting video over a serial cable Im not aware of?

Since you asked, yes there is! Well nearly... ;)

A 9 pin video standard was instituted, never really caught on.
