Need to know which processor to go for, 3800-4600
Which mobo to go for, i guess nf550 is the equiv of nf5?
2gb ram, again something to run with above, i guess i should buy pc6400 for 800mhz? will there be much difference in performance if i bought 5300 and will it run ok?

I have read some reviews and stuff, just want some feedback from you lot to see if its the same idea

I checked out intel core 2 but the prices incl a half decent mobo seem to be considerably more.

Go for the 4600 65nm Brisbane core if you can find one cheap.
Go for the 800mhz ram, you need the memory speed.

are you running dual core at the mo ?

the x2 is a big performance boost over a normal chip....  and you wont really notice the difference between 3800 to 4600 tbh.... so just get the best bang for buck

and as serious said, go for some good memory, itll save you a load of problems over cheap stuff

Intel Core Duo 2

E4300 and Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI NF650i for £190~, E4300 would get to 2.7GHz at least and would wipe the floor with any Athlon X2 running at less than about 3.6GHz.

Of course you may not want to overclock.  But in my opinion its silly not to these days as its so god damn easy to do and the gains are often 40~50% with lower end Core Duo 2s.  And thats with stock cooling and stock voltage!

Runs wow, coh, gw all fine, although it seems to lack performance in LOTRO Beta, there has been mention that another gig of ram might help considerably but i thought i might as well go dual while im at it

Usually i dont bother overclocking, i tend to go for stable system as possible, so my purchase would be towards a decent un-ocd setup, the potential to oc would be a bonus.

Also im running a single gpu at the moment, only have enough cash atm to upgrade the cpu, mobo, ram

If i did opt for core 2 duo, o amd x2 will this psu handle it

i have this one lying around still, not really been used. Also have the 20-24 pin converter for use with 775 mobo

the upgrade to an X2 was the only real preformance boost when upgrading that Ive been able to really notice in a long time, I lurv mine : :wub:

maybe the intel could be faster.... but I guess Im just an AMD fanboy after years of doing well with them


EDIT: never heard of that make... but that doesenlt really mean anything.... and bth Id go for something a bit better if your going to upgrade to dual gfx later on....  (when I say better, I mean make, 460w hould be plenty)

yep im just working to a budget atm didnt really consider that would have to buy a psu because i totally forgot about it

ps according to reviews that psu kicks out about 400w

yeah... the main thing is, the closer you run it to its peak output the shorter its life is

last thing I read sais a psu run at 50% output should last ten times longer than one run at 75%

(was awhile ago I read that tho....)

(75% because most PSUs are made to run at about 75% constant load, much over that and your killing it)

So next anwser is how much wattage is needed for both of these cpus, the core 2 duo and amd x2, guess thats more searching for me

If you arent going for a dual graphics set up then any decent 460watt one should do, if you are going for dual graphics card then you want to upgrade to dual rail

Handles my brothers 3200+ with a pair of graphics cards and other bits perfectly.

No i will stick with a single graphics card for now, budget does not permit anymore at this time, just want to see an improvement to performance in games really

AM running my Core2 Duo 6600 at 3ghz with stock cooling and voltage and a 6600gt with a standard 400w enermax - No bother... Just fyi
