hi,
ive recently decided that i would like to pursue a career into the networking domain. I have just finished university and have a degree in computer science and would like to get some information about what i would need to do.
I was wondering what steps people have taken to gain their knowledge and experience, or what steps do you consider are important to get into this field?
what did you do to get where you are now? what sort of tasks do you carry out in your job, etc...?
many thanks.

get your CCNA, and while you are at it get some corporate experience, it doesnt seem to matter what as long as its IT experience. Im doing the CCNA self study route at the moment (exams are cheap), and im doing helldesk monkey junk. prior to the helldesk job i was getting ignored for job apps, i the past 2 weeks ive had 5 interviews that im waiting to hear back from, and ive only really been applying for job for the past 3/4 weeks.

Seriously though - i think you are doing the right thing. Go for a junior position and keep checking the adverts. hopefully someone should give you a break. Experience, rather than qualification, is vital.

Most of the people who are working in networking seem to have been from being in a datacentre and people coming up and asking if they have full time work.
Sounds mad but being sat somewhere stripping and reassembling a rig and being seen doing it by someone can be very useful, so the best thing would be to get down to working with the kind of equipment you will need to know about.
Experience is everything in computing
