Is this computer ok, and have I missed anything obvious? Or could you recommend anything to change for something else? Max I can spend is Ã,£400.

Why not Sata? Other than that its OK... but the gfx card could do with more punch.

According to Asus, that board only works with PD/P4/Celeron. There is no mention of Core 2 Duo compatibility so Id go for a different board.

Tongy, is SATA easy to install? Ive never used it before! And do you get the SATA cables with the SATA hard drive, or do they come with the motherboard?

Sata is a pussycat. Have the drivers on a disk though :D
Also, you MUST be sure of the compatability with Coe 2. I use the P5V-VM myself and it works like a charm..... AFTER UPDATING THE BIOS.

This might sound thick, but where will I get the drivers from? Will they not come with it?
Also.........updating the bios...........will this be easy to do while trying to install the SATA drive etc??

Some Pentium D processors are dual core 64bit processors, so that is most likely what the ebuyer description will be referring to. I have checked the bios download page on the Asus site and for that board there are no updates that say they add core 2 duo support.
Unless you have seen somewhere that states that the board will definately work with core 2 duo CPUs, Id stay away from it.

Think he meant the MX board which is stated as supporting core 2 duo on the Asus site.

Put drivers onto floppy and insert during install when it asks you if you need other disk drivers for raid etc.
Easy enough, the cables are thinner so easier to live with. Many modern boards are only capable of 2 IDE drives which makes S-ata easier for HD use, more so if you want to use 2 DVD drives..
Aye, but with the reduction in size of the connectors, the cables are a little more shakey with their connections.
It is far better for space saving for sure.
XP with SP2 loads onto all my PCs with sata without being given drivers, however if you are using raid, you WILL need them.
