Title: New gaming/video encoding build help!
Post by: Shakey on April 08, 2014, 12:32:59 PM
Hey, it's been a while.

I'm finally considering replacing my rig, since socket 1366 i7 went the way of the dinosaurs. It'll be for some moderate gaming and x264 video encoding. I'm trying for as near to a silent machine as possible (hence the case I picked).

I'm currently thinking something along these lines (all prices from ebuyer):

i7 4771             £224
Asus Z87-Pro    £141
2x8GB Patriot 2133MHz RAM    £129
MSI GTX 770       £230
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB    £175
Seagate 2TB HD     £60
Fractal Design R4 Case     £80
Scythe Mugen 4 cooler      £40
Corsair RM 750W PSU     £87

Total:       £1166

That's about the limit of how much I want to spend, so if anyone has any ides about better/cheaper parts, I'm all ears.

Ta :)

looks pretty good then

tbh as long as you're buying new/recent stuff, and sticking with decent manufacturers there's not a lot of difference between different kit these days... it's all bloody fast :o

I got the same drive but the slower EVO for £93 last week, if you think that's worth nearly double the price fair enough.

I'm not really sold on the EVOs TLC flash endurance yet. Plus I like the 5 year warranty of the PRO.
