And will there be a big difference between 512MB of graphic card memory to 256MB ?

I cant imagine there would be for the odd game, planning on getting BF2142.

Not really looked into PCI-E as Im stuck in the stone age with AGP, but usually unless you are buying a top end card with a GPU/Architecture that can provide for the ram, it doesnt make a difference.

I think.

If you play @ high res then it could make a significant difference to FPS.

If you can strech, personally Id go for an 8600GTS OC (320mb or 640mb).  Imo the sweet spot in a mid range card at.  About £120-150 depending on brand.

visually therell be a big difference between 256 and 512 MB graphics cards in recent games.  The memory allows you to load a lot more textures and higher detail scenes.

The lower memory wont limit your ability to play the games though.  It just uses more basic graphics but will run fine.

but IIRC the 2600XT isnt as fast as the 1950XT, and they are about the same price.  The only plus point would be DX10, and isnt essental yet anyhow.
