Woo!! liking the new catagories on the boards folks.
Being without internet at home is doing my head in, so thankfully today! or rather this evening... I placed an order with plusnet. Up to 8mb with the 15gb peaktime cap (im in work from 4.30 - 10:30 at night pretty much, and I dont tend to faff on the net with major stuff until after midnight, so the cap wont affect me too much).
So yeah... Day 1 of the long wait for the new internet stuffs! :D yay!!!! :D
Brilliant stuffs. Cant wait.
i have an impressive Wang.
You should all see it
I have. it was a mighty wang.
There have been loads of people complaining about delays for getting connected to some suppliers, talk talk broadband has a 3 month delay ATM and some are claiming the service isnt good.
Ah well hopefully its not going to be that much of an issue with plusnet :)
Already zipped through the first few stages and the website is saying an engineer will activate my broadband on the 24th June 2006 after 12pm.
My router may be holding me back however, line tests (noise/atten tests) say I can get 6.2MB but the router is currently showing syncing at 4.5mbit speeds, im hoping thatll improve but even so WOO! :) Cant wait! :D

Not quite free, its a lossleader they are using to increase market share.

Usage /// Speed of P2P, Usenet, file transfer applications /// Speed of other Internet activites
Up to 10GB /// Up to line speed* /// Up to line speed*
10 - 12.5GB /// Up to 256Kbps /// Up to 2Mbps
12.5 - 15GB /// Up to 128Kbps /// Up to 1Mbps
15GB+ /// Blocked /// Up to 512Kbps
aye, but I doubt Ill hit 10gb. Im not around between 6 and midnight :)
My internet should theoretically be accessible from sometime after midday today! :D yay!!!
Woo apparantly its already up and running did a quick speed test. Not impressed as apparantly plusnet now require you to "opt-in" to get 8mbit due to the halting of automatic upgrades to it.
So I am currently running at 2731.2kbps :( Still blindingly fast in comparison to the old 512k I had :D
sorted dude :nana:
mines about the same but im on cable :D
actually mine is:
Downstream 3,801.9 Kbps ( = 3.7 Mbps )
Upstream 334.2 Kbps ( = 0.3 Mbps )

Thats your whack Im afraid. All new Plusnet signups (and presumably all others too) are provisioned onto ADSL Max straight away without having to opt in or anything.
What you see is typical anyway - you wont get "8MBit" unless you live in a cupboard in the exchange with a gold phone wire with silk gossamer sheathing.
What youll also find is that as its rate adaptive it will vary quite a bit, esp over the next fortnight while the BT systems work out the sustainability of your speed. I get on average something between 2-3 mbit, with drops to 400k or up to 3.5 Mb occasionally.

Ahhhh that explains the thing! :D
Had a call from my dad about 10 mins ago saying "that number you said to have a look at its now 4572kbps" along with exclamations of "we should have done this ages ago! your mum and me cant click things fast enough" :D lol.
Cool :D hopefully Ill get 3.5mb stable hopefully. my router shows an SnR of 17db at the moment which is quite high imo :)

yes, but its still free to the user provided they take a phone line as well. Thier Tech support center is about 300 yards from my house and i know that most of their 1st line are ex Littlewoods call center staff. Littelwoods had the place previously. You cant convert a load of middle aged women who are used to typing in catalogue numbers and repeating special offers into tech support, its not possible.
Wooot! synced and stable at 4250mbit/s :D
Rich, you might see that, but its not what youll get. Do speed tests at different times of the day for a few weeks and then see.
My router says
QuoteDownStream Connection Speed 5632 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
but I only get 3.27 mbps just now (which admittedly is the fastest Ive got in a month). And just this last minute I get 2 mbps. So it goes up and down. Adslguide have a news item on this recently.
My brothers connects at 6250 - but he NEVER gets any more than 2.2 Mbps on any speed test.

Yes 4250 mbit/s is very fast ;) I only get 1.9 and .38 up on my 2.0 connection.
I was connected at almost 7000 earlier, max download speed was 275 K/second - hardly 7Mbit!!
still on stone age 2mbit fixed here

How long did you go without home internet?
I found that the jitters wore off after a couple of months. I get more work done without the distraction of this site :)
