Title: New Kindles & Tablet
Post by: Leon on September 29, 2011, 11:11:27 AM
Many will of seen these already but yesterday Amazon did its huge press release and showed the world its new line up of E-ink and its new tablet.

Information on This is My Next (http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/28/amazon-kindle-fire-touch-79-classic/)

I love my kindle, I use it daily and man I wish I had it before I went travelling - for those that read alot I would recommend one over any backlit digital display but hey its each to their own, I have enough of these arguments.

But the reason I was compelled to post... The $79 budget kindle which IMO is a bargin has been released in the UK for £89... Thats just not right! I'm used to the way they do this and I wouldn't of been so shocked if they released at $79 = £79 but even more?! What will they release the $199 tablet at?!!

That's pretty disgusting, surely with that pricing its cheaper to import from Amazon US? ???

Just checked and $79 works out at around £50 so to buy in the UK is nearly double the price :disappointed:

The fire looks good, if it had the battery life and readability of an e-ink it'd be ace. The only gripe I have with my kindle is how it handles pdfs :(

Calm there people. The internet seems to be blowing up over this $79 -> £89 thing but its all wrong.

The $79 version in the US is an ad supported version which is not on sale outside of the US. The same version we have in the UK costs $110 in the US (same hardware as the $79 but no adverts) add sales tax (20% for the UK) to this and there is only a $6 premium in the UK.

I think Amazon shot themselves in the foot a bit with their headline grabbing "$79 kindle" which was obviously going to lead to the rest of the world assuming they could get an equivalently priced kindle.

It looks like an interesting line up of devices. The Fire + Android might make a very interesting device.

Its a shame the fire isnt using some sort of awesome e-ink screen but an IPS screened dual core tab for $199, yes please.

I only just read about the add-support not being outside the US which explains the price increase, still would of prefered them to do a cheaper device and bring ADs to the UK version.

The fire does sound interesting, can't wait to read some reviews for it but it depends what its like for reading books I was thinking about getting a kindle but if the screen on a fire is good then I'll think about getting one especially as it'd be good for magazines & pdf's.  Don't really want to get a kindle and a tablet if I can avoid it.

Its a standard IPS panel so it will be similar to the iPad2 or Transformer (& a few other devices) - Generally very good displays but not something I would like to read off all day (due to the backlight, its just like reading off your monitor) but great for Image heavy PDFs, Mags, Movies and Pictures :P

Kindle and a tablet it might be then, thought as much tbh need to start looking into ebooks, the books I've got now are taking up too much room never mind what I'll buy over the next few years!  Same with magazines really so a nice colour screen would be good for those, hmm need more money me thinks!
